Workout:
It’s a new year for a new start so, I went to the Y today and hope to at least 3 times a week. I found I need to work up to where I was a couple months ago so it will be a slow start. But a start it is. I like the motto: Move More…each day…. So thats what I will try to do.
Workout:
I’ve heard/read some people’s discussion of which they prefer: treadmill vs outdoor running/walking. Well I’ll add my two cents worth. I prefer (I won’t say LIKE quite yet but I’m working on it) treadmill for the following reasons.
1) I am not very sure footed and have fallen too many times that I feel the need to watch my steps when I am on uneven ground. With the treadmill I am quite sure the tread will be there when I put my foot down and can look around the room or just day dream.
2) When I walk outdoors, because I am not sure of the evenness of the surface I do not push myself for speed. Someone said they feel like they are “keeping up with” the treadmill. For me that is good because when I am on the treadmill I can crank up the speed and push myself a little faster than I might be really comfortable with but know that I can depend on the surface so only have that one thing to worry/think about.
3) As some folks have also mentioned, the weather is NOT a problem inside the gym where the treadmill and the strength machines are.
These may be thoughts more common to the rank novice in the fitness process but that is where I am.
I really do enjoy living vicariously through the blogs on Sweat365, so keep it up everyone. I’m rooting for you.
I upped the ante a little and kept going today until I hit one mile (in 26 minutes). I then continued to do 5 of my strength machines and then reward myself with a soak in the hot tub.
Health:
This may not seem like much to most of you but I see progress. OK so on Monday I walked .75 miles in 22 minutes and today I walked .82 miles in 20 minutes. (2.5 MPH at 2.5 incline) This is my plan.. to walk a little faster, a little farther. After the 20 minutes on the treadmill I go on to do 4 or 5 strength machines.
Health:
Now don’t expect wonderful things just because I have a son that is an IRONMAN, but, I started a new program at the YMCA. They have what they are calling “the 12 week room/program”. The idea is for people who have not participated in regular exercise recently. There is a trainer, either in this special room or at least “available”, for advice. The trainer will review progress every 3 or 4 weeks and make recommendations as well as be available for any questions. There are treadmills, ellipticals, and seated bikes for cardio and 8 different strength machines. The machines are connected to the FITLINX system, so that everything you do on those machines gets automatically recorded and you can also manually record activities you do outside that room, such as swimming, water aerobics, playing sports, or any outdoor activity. The FITLINX system also gives feedback while you are exercising with audible signals if you are doing everything per form and different signals if your form is off. The YMCA will give special awards for pound lifted or miles walked or run. (fitpoints) My goal is to go 3 times a week and gradually increase my endurance and strength as well as try to lose a few more pounds.
